Welcome

We at Sueno del Mar, have experienced a veritable storm of activity this month, both with our residents adding to their time of residency, and with new people investigating the possibility of joining our community-- a community, as many of you know , is unique on the planet, and which sets the standard for all other offerings on this island! It was my great pleasure to introduce some wonderful folks to Sueno recently-- who have now become some of our newest citizens! First came Beth Harris-- a lovely lady from Olean, New York, who Andy Donlon the dependable, sent, and she decided Aug/Sept at Sueno would suit her just fine, so she made it hers! Welcome Beth-- golf cart and dinner on me next trip down!

Then came Vickie Causby and Krista Engles, from Wilmington, N.C. who found in Sueno, a community of people that are genuine in their welcoming hospitality. They'll be in residence at Sueno for June and July now, and there's talk of adding more to that. Ladies-- my challenge to you for a match of "Death Bocci Ball stands-- with dinner following.

It's more than the exciting fact that our population continues to grow-- it's that the quality of these new residents is in keeping with the already exemplary group, who have made Sueno the incredible place it is!! I'm talking adventureous spirits who think glasses of water are half full whereever they see one, and who live in the firm belief of a better tomorrow-- even in the best of times! What a privilege and pleasure to welcome such fine folks as these to our growing community!!

4th of July Fun

It started out as a normal day, with Hank Miller and gang (Bob Frieze, Allen Hertz and Heather Hertz) at their spot in the pool/Palapa.
With more than 60 people hanging out in the Palapa all day, we played plenty of horseshoes, darts, and bacchi. Bertha tells me she beat Robert for the first time!
Staff quit work early to join in the fun and games, starting with tug o' war and the bike/kayak race.
The first round lasted only seconds as members beat the staff in the woman's division. The second was a closer match, but staff was victorious against the members in the men's division. (although, staff may have had a little extra help in the end... just maybe)
Last was the kids division.Pool volleyball got pretty competitive.
Staff joined in the pool volleyball as well.
Flaco, Ike, and Robertino from our Grounds department.

Mike & Janie Simms and their family were showing their patriotism.
Banda Cubana provided the entertainment for the evening.
On the menu was venison, gibnut, pork ribs and steaks, and chicken. It was delicious as always. The Simms and Bulkley families below.
Casey & Gloria Franklin and kids, Gill Kosina, A.G. & Kay Robertson.
Robert Cunningham & Bertha, Mellie and her sister. Some of the kids had glow bracelets. One of them hung from Kevin's ear most of the night.
And don't ask me what Antonio (Boat Captain) has got going on here.
Captain Joe (Tour Guide) and Terrance (Maintenance).
A combination of good music, good company, and undoubtedly, good drinks, inevitably led to some dancing. Gill joined right in.
As did the Simms.
Guests, Dale & Leslie Bulkley.
Eric & Karen Walker family. We concluded a great Forth of July with a spectacular firework show on the dock.

Happy Independence Day!

Current Events

Monthly Member Meeting
The second Tuesday of each month we hold a members meeting on site where members receive an update on Sueno's progress and future plans and have an opportunity to ask questions to upper management. June's meeting was the fifth such meeting. In attendance from left to right were Sandy & Ron Jiura, Mike & Ana Mainini, Brian Burgan (Sales Manager), Bryan & Patti Dodd, Sylvia & Jack Anderson, and Eric Carson. Presenting was General Manager, Kevin Meyer.

Bacalar Chico Presentation
The rangers of the Bacalar Chico Reserve held an informative presentation in the Palapa on Jun 23 to share some of the Reserve's history and to inform us of current rules and regulations. Sueno has worked closely with Roberto, Rodney and Samos since they were assigned to the Reserve in Jan 09. In attendance were Justin & Heather Hertz, Bryan Dodd, Eric Carson, Mike & Ana Mainini & family, Gene & Barbara Rakow & family, and Jack & Sylvia Anderson & family.

Staff First Aid Training
Member Gene Rakow responded to our request for qualified members to train our staff in first aid. Sarah (Housekeeping), Luis (Security), Flaco (Grounds), Antonio (Maintenance), and Imelda (Member Services) learned first response methods that Gene uses as a Ski Patrolman.

Thank you Gene!
