Welcome to Sueno del Mar

Welcome to Phil and Ann Myers. After enjoying a relaxing Thanksgiving week they decided to make Sueno del Mar their Caribbean home during November and December.

Vicke Causby and Krista Engels have decided to add November and December to their time of residency. Christmas in the Caribbean!

Antonio Update

Antonio underwent another surgery on his foot last week. They removed a piece of bone from his hip to reconstruct his leg. He has a metal plate and several screws in his leg now. Although he will be in a wheelchair for months to come, he is making a good recovery.

November

Our beaches are looking better than ever after our fourth monthly beach cleanup.
The find of the month was this lovely camp trailer, found between Sueno and the abandoned "Iguana House."

Optometrist Ed Paul did an eye screening for all resort and construction staff. You may see the staff sporting some stylish new lenses now. Dr. Tanner helped out too.
Thank you Ed, Laura, & Tanner Paul, and Tammi Coleman for donating your time and resources.
With a total of 82 people in house and with 23 kids we set a couple of new records at Sueno during Thanksgiving week. Thanksgiving Day was full of fun, including poker...
...a beer drinking contest...
...X-box and Wii...
...a couple of football games on TV...
...tug 'o war...

...live music and dancing...
...great food by Marwan and the staff of the Blue Moon Restaurant... (picture by Charlie Fair)
...and most of all, great people!

Updates on Antonio & Cesar - Sunday

Antonio moved back to his home on the island on Wednesday. He is confined to a wheelchair which was donated by the Behring Wheelchair Foundation as arranged by member Glenn Perry. The Sueno construction crew built a ramp and also some handles around his bed and bathroom to allow him to move about the house a little easier. He has to keep his leg elevated and has limited mobility in his shoulder. He receives a short treatment from Dr. Dan Gonzales daily for his leg. He has an appointment at the hospital on Dec 4 which may result in a surgery on his shoulder. Antonio is happy to be back at home with his family and sends his best to everyone.

Cesar's body was transported to Honduras where his parents and family reside. We hosted his family for a memorial service held at Sueno last Sunday. In attandance were his mother, wife, 7-month-old son, uncle, 2 cousins, nephew, and sister-in-law.
Thanks to all those who have expressed their love and concern by word and in the form of donations.

Tragic Boat Accident

Our hearts go out to all of those who were affected by Sunday's boat accident, particularly the two members of our staff. The accident claimed the life of Cesar Scott, who was our newly hired concierge. Cesar's wife and parents have been notified. Funeral plans are underway.

Boat captain Antonio Tepaz sustained severe injuries. He was air lifted to Universal Hospital in Belize, where he is currently being treated in Intensive Care for a lung contusion, a compound fracture in his leg, and a fractured shoulder. His doctor says his health is improving daily.

If you would like to make a contribution either Anotonio or Cesar's family, please contact memberservices@dreambelize.com. Thank you to those who have sent cards and words of encouragement. They are being printed and delivered to Antonio and Cesar's family. Please keep all the victims in your thoughts and prayers.
This picture was taken by Susan Twachtman, sponsored guest of Suzanne Palmer just hours before the accident occurred.

Caye Chapel Champion

Member Glenn Powell and his buddies have a 9 year old tradition of competing for possession of a prized golf trophy that changes hands every three months after a quarterly golf tournament. The trophy is covered on all sides with plaques listing the locations of the tournaments and the proud victor of each.
Congrats to Jim Chapman, this quarter's champion! If you ask Glenn, he'll tell you he let Jim win in order to make Jim feel at home in Belize and at Sueno. Nice sales strategy Glenn, but we're not buying it!
Caye Chapel is a favorite among Sueno golfers. The private island/golf course is a short flight or boat ride from San Pedro.
Watch for crocs! Caye Chapel is closed for the next few months for renovations.

Baby Penny is here!

Jessica gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 3:00am this morning. Penny weighs 8 pounds and is 21 inches tall. Both mom and baby are doing fine.

They don't use bottles at this hospital (just one of the many bizarre aspects of having a baby in Belize) so Penny drinks her milk from a cup, like a big girl.

Thanks everyone for the love and support you have shown Jessica and I for the last nine months! Penny looks forward to meeting you when you are at Sueno next!

From Ambergris Today:

San Pedro Belize Express' newest water vessel arrived in San Pedro on Wednesday, October 21, in preparation for the company's scheduled trips to Chetumal, Mexico. Trips are set for weekends only (Friday – Sunday) and leaves San Pedro at 8:30 a.m. and leaves Chetumal at 3:00 p.m. San Pedro Belize Express is offering a special price for the month of November of $40US round trip and the set price after the promotion is $55US round trip. Half a Fish

After hooking a fish and reeling it half way in, guest Paul Eden felt a strong tug on his line. He soon found out why. A vigilant barracuda had made off with half his fish.

It's kind of you to share your catch, Paul!

John & Gail Lewis appear in the San Pedro Sun

Where did you read your San Pedro Sun?
Where did you take your San Pedro Sun & Visi-tor Guide? Take a photo of you and the paper and send it to us at: spsun@sanpedrosun.net
.
John and Gail Lewis continue their travels, this time, to Petra, Jordan! Petra is one of the 7 wonders of the world, and this ancient city was where part of the movie Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade was filmed.
.
John and Gail are pictured in front of a building known as the Treasury. Apparently people thought a bowl part of the sculpture at the top of the columns contained riches and jewels, but John says, it’s "just a good story, not true."
.
Photos taken in unique and unusual places are preferred. Be sure to identify who is in the photo and where the photo was taken. Don’t forget to include your names and what you were doing.

Bicycle Buy Back Program

Interested in having your own bicycle to use while at Sueno? Now you can purchase a bicycle, use it while you are here, then Sueno will buy it back for half price at the end of your stay and add it to our bicycle collection.

So far I have received 5 orders, the first two of which were from Ross and Kristi Turner.
The bicycle we have chosen is the Nankon Hurricane. It is the beach cruiser of all beach cruisers! With an aluminum frame and seat post, stainless steel spokes and chain it is the ideal bicycle for cruising the beaches surrounding Sueño del Mar and is well equipped to withstand the harsh salty environment of the Caribbean.
The Hurricane is also available with a step through frame.
Here's how the program works. We special order the Hurricane from Belize City at a cost of about $250 US. We order it, charge it to your Sueno account or credit card, and have it ready in your villa before your arrival. The Hurricane is yours to keep at your villa during your stay. No more waiting for a bike to become available at Sueño’s bike shelter. No more rust, loose chains, and seats that are too high or too low. The Hurricane is adjusted to fit you personally and is yours for the duration of your stay.
At checkout we will credit your account for half the purchase price, about $125 US. Then the bike becomes part of Sueno's bike collection to be maintained by our staff and made available for our members to use. The Bicycle Buyback Program allows you to enjoy a brand new, custom fit bicycle and allows Sueño to improve its bicycle collection for the rest of our membership.

When Ross and Kristi aren't riding their bikes you can find them throwing a Frisbee in the 85 degree sea water.

Before and After

For the third month in a row we did our beach cleanup.
So is all this work making any difference on our beaches? Let's ask our August members. Remember this spot just up wind of building 1?Let me refresh your memory:

Baby on the way

Jessica has a week and a half left until the due date of our baby girl. Last night the girls from her youth group in San Pedro surprised her with a baby shower.
