Friday Fly Fishing

Early Friday morning Tim and I headed out on a day of fly fishing. This is my first serious attempt at bonefishing. It was only the previous Saturday Roger gave me a few pointers. Does Tim know what he is in for? Tim decides we are hiking south to reach the lagoon on the west side of Ambergris Caye. Kevin, a 16 year old that lives south of Sueno, joins us to show the way. When we arrive we start working the flats in search of bonefish.

Tim enjoys his fishing and patiently gives me pointers. Then all of a sudden a bonefish takes my fly. I just caught my first bonefish! When I finally land the bonefish it is a small one, but hey it is my first bonefish. We get the camera out but I drop the bonefish... no pictures.

We decide to hike back to the beach and fish the grassy flats as we walk back to Sueno. We come across 3 bonefish and I circle around to cast to them. The wind is very strong today. After a few casts they move out of my casting range, which is not saying much since I can still see them. Then I notice other movement in the sea grass closer to me. I cast and strip the line. Then the water explodes with activity. My line takes off, I can see other fish take off, and one fish jumps through the air. As I reel the fish in Tim gets my camera. Not going to miss this one. After a pretty good fight I real the fish into my feet. Much to my surprise I caught my first snook.

A successful day for a novice.

Sueno in the Kayak Race

Captain Joe and Gringo are representing Sueno in tomorrow's kayak race around the island, the
Ambergris Caye Lagoon/Reef Eco Challenge. Last year Joe and his partner took first while Gringo and his partner, representing Sueno, took second place. Needless to say our chances are pretty good this year.

Swim, Ray, Swim! Click the play button below to watch the video.

Yesterday I took some guests snorkeling. We tied up to the buoy located straight out from Sueno's dock. As soon as we jumped off the kayaks we saw this guy swimming past. Click the play button to see the video. This is the first time I've been able to figure out the video function of the blog.
