Goodbye from Steve, Jessica, and Penny!
Thanks to all of Sueno's members and staff for allowing Jessica, Penny, and I to be a part of your island community for a time and for all the kind emails you have sent us. It has been a wonderful experience and a chapter in our lives that we will always cherish. We will miss you! Here is the link to our personal blog www.steveinbelize.blogspot.com
Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve Tour
Park ranger Rodney offered us an educational tour of the Bacalar Chico Marine reserve that encompasses the northern portion of Ambergris Caye. It started with a boat ride up through the Mayan channel that separates Mexico (on the left) and Belize (on the right). In attendance on this day's tour was John Midlen, Jim and Ann Maloney, Dan Russell, and Gregg and Caroline Garner and their daughters. Chac Balam is noticeable from a distance as it soars above the treetops.
Member Ann Maloney and her guest Caroline Garner in the Mayan tomb.Shards of mayan pottery can be found all over this site.
Next stop, the San Juan area on the back side of the island. There is a small museum with information about Bacalar Chico.

The trip back is through the Cantina Lagoon. This is a prime fly fishing area. It gets pretty shallow in a few spots, so we did a little pushing along the way.
At the far end of the lagoon we unloaded for a short walk through the jungle on a trail that brings us back to the beach just north of Robles Point (the windmill).
We hope to do more of these trips in other months.Monday, January 11, 2010

Bicycle Buy-back Program continues
Interested in having your own bicycle to use while at Sueno? We are continuing our Bicycle Buy-back Program. You can purchase a bicycle, use it while you are here, then Sueno will buy it back for half price at the end of your stay and add it to our bicycle collection.
Here's how the program works. We special order the Hurricane from Belize City at a cost of about $250 US. We order it, charge it to your Sueno account or credit card, and have it ready in your villa before your arrival. The Hurricane is yours to keep at your villa during your stay. No more waiting for a bike to become available at Sueno’s bike shelter. No more rust, loose chains, and seats that are too high or too low. The Hurricane is adjusted to fit you personally and is yours for the duration of your stay.
At checkout we will credit your account for half the purchase price, about $125 US. Then the bike becomes part of Sueno's bike collection to be maintained by our staff and made available for our members to use. The Bicycle Buyback Program allows you to enjoy a brand new, custom fit bicycle and allows Sueno to improve its bicycle collection for the rest of our membership.
Happy New Year!
Here's what you missed in December:
San Pedro Town was all spruced up for Christmas with lights lining the streets and a tree of lights in the park.
Captain Antonio and his family stayed a night at Sueno on Christmas day. Antonio's father with his barracuda.
